The Dolphin: "Excellent Local" Barnstable Restaurant Tip by tayloretc
Barnstable Restaurants: 4 reviews and 5 photos
The Dolphin is in an old building, sagging and dark-ish in atmospheric ways. It’s a local place, but upscale – an after-work hangout for the lawyers and others from the courthouse across the street. There are enough seats for a larger crowd than was there on the off-season Tuesday I went. The crowd that was there was older, and most seemed to be there for special occasions.
There’s a small bar with one of the friendliest barkeeps I’ve ever met (and who you’ll meet too, if you come in through the back).
Service is fine and the courses were timed right, although things were a little slow to get started. My dinner of crab cakes starter and delicious almond- and cranberry-crusted salmon was enough for two meals – which was good, since that plus a beer was about $50.
