This is the first suburb on the hills overlooking the old town section and built during the Medieval Age, maybe around 14-5th century. A lot was destroyed during the war with Turks in 17th century and the irony was the first settlement was the result of migrants coming to Split for protection from the Turks back in 14th century. Some stone homes remain and are close side by side to neighbors down very narrow streets, are from those 15-17th century period, and it became and integral part of the city in late 1800's. It sits on a crest that tops at about 1800 feet on toward Marjan hill. There are about 5,000 residents living there today and from what was a poor economic place for the fisherman in years past, it is now a pricey and prestige place to live.
To find the main street to access, and also get u to Marjan be foot, find Krizeva just off Marmontova, and right behind the Trg Rebublic complex. You need to look hard to find it, and even harder to find your way to Marjan, but it does go there.
