Achilion is definitely one of the most popular sites in Corfu. If the tourist buses arrive you will be with hordes of other visitors. We went there early enough so enjoyed it more.
Achilion was the summer house of the austro-hungarian empress Sisi for 8 years (1890 to 1898 when she died). First we saw a statue of her near the entrance (pic 1) and then we admired the central hall (pic 2). From there you go on the left and check several rooms

The first rooms on the left focus on several different items like white reliefs marbles showing The Dispute of Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, or the headless Hesperid, the Dionysian representation or the Schlosshof zu Heidelberg(etching on paper). Then you can see a room that houses the Elisabeth?s desk (in dark walnut with lathed legs), a silver table, the general Moldker?s banners, a desk with Morse code control on top (!), Elisabeth?s bookcase, full body painting of the Kaiser Walhelm II on canvas, the sword of Frank Joseph, a side cabinet, Elisabeth?s mirror, Elisabeth?s cupboard, a dressing table and some floor mirrors. I have to admit that I was started to worry that the whole place would turned out into a boring tour among her objects. The next room has similar things like her bed, some oil paintings on canvas with gold-plated frames and some more useless items like an ashtray (!), a bedside table and a cupboard.
Hopefully, the right wing of the museum is more interesting with some nice paintings (The Imperial Yacht, The Hohenzollern at Night), pencil drawings on carton, porcelain sculptures of Elisabeth or Franz Joseph, some more furniture, a model of the Imperial Yacht and the naval flag.
The best spot in the museum is the chapel. It contains a church organ (with gold-plated decorative cords) and above it a painting of Virgin Mary sufacing from the waves (pic 4)
Then we went out and turn to the left through a staircase with is full of some statues (pic 5) and leads to the gardens of Achilion (see next tip)
The entrance fee is 7 euros
