The Byzantine museum is located inside a church! It’s the Panagia Antiviouniotisa church. It was built in 15th century, one of the oldest in Corfu and took its name from the hill Antivouni that the church is located at and it’s right opposite the Ovriovouni.
It is a single-nave with wooden roof but also with an exonarthex that surround the church on three sides. The church houses the museum since 1984 and has a really impressive interior with the walls covered with wallpaper and the floor is full of gravestones(of nobles and clerics).
There are many items on its collection like byzantine icons (15th to 19th century) and other church items. Many of the icons are made by painters from Creta on their way to Venice.
I only have this night shot from the street but none from inside. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 08.00-19.30
Address: Mouragia, Old Town, Corfu
Directions: From Arseniou street you will see the 51 steps that lead to the church
