Franziskanerkirche, Salzburg: 11 reviews and 21 photos
Dating back to the 12th century, ths church was orignally given to the nuns of St Petr's. It is the parish church of Salzburg and for a while, during the restoration of the Dom, it took over the duties of the Cathedral. It has had a very colourful and rich history with many renovations over the centuries. It's style has varied between Baroque, Romanesque and late Gothic. It was taken over by the Franciscan Order in the latter half the 16th century.
Unfortuntely, it was closed when I was there so I couldn't get into see the treasures inside. I would particularly like to have seen the beautifully ornate statue of The Madonna and Child.
