Gulls on the Stade, Hastings Old Town

Wherever you go on the E Sussex coast, watch out for the gulls! They are a quintessential part of the seaside experience, but they can also be a menace. You won?t have to leave your car parked on the sea front in Hastings or any of the other towns for long before white streaks appear on the bodywork - and it?s not uncommon for people to suffer the same fate.

Another problem is the gulls? fondness for many of the same foods that we enjoy, and combined with their lack of timidity this can lead to some disconcertingly aggressive behaviour, with tasty titbits such as fried fish or chips snatched from the eater?s hand.

Less of a problem than these, but still annoying at times, is the gulls? screeching which is liable to disturb your early morning slumbers ? this is no dawn chorus, as you can imagine!
