Phou Si, meaning Holy Mountain in Lao, has an excellent view over the town, as well as the Mekong and Nam Khan. It sits to the south of the Royal Palace Museum where you can find a series of steps that takes you to the summit. At the top you'll find That Chomsi - a golden stupa with a small shrine plus some cave shrines, a machine gun and an open-air temples with golden Buddha statues perched on rocks.

Admission: 20,000 kip.
