"The inconostasis of Trinity Cathedral" Top 5 Page for this destination Kostroma Things to Do Tip by globetrott

Kostroma Things to Do: 75 reviews and 274 photos

It is really very hard to get all of the giant iconostasis of Trinity Cathedral of Ipatiev Monastery into one single photo, this is why I had to use my fish-eye lense, that is unfortunatly deforming a bit. Normally the row of saints that is shown in an iconostasis follows certain rules, so all saints have their fixed places in any iconostasis of any russian orthodox church. The iconostasis is also not the altar of the church, but the golden door in my last 2 photos will lead to the altar behind the iconostasis. The altar of russian orthodox churches is off-limits for the ordinary believers, and only the priest is allowed to go there.
