"The Matthew" Bristol Things to Do Tip by grayfo

Bristol Things to Do: 285 reviews and 506 photos

In 1497 John Cabot and his crew set sail for Asia aboard the original Matthew hoping to trade goods and commodities with the people who lived there.

However, he actually arrived on the coast of Newfoundland becoming the first European known to have set foot on the American mainland, not Christopher Columbus as most people believe.

Today the replica of the Matthew is anchored in Bristol harbour and is open to the public for boarding or even on trips around the harbour.
