"Resident storks of Alcacer do Sal" Alcácer do Sal Off The Beaten Path Tip by berenices

Alcácer do Sal Off The Beaten Path: 2 reviews and 2 photos

One of the more interesting sights to see in the countryside around Alcacer do Sal is the proliferation of storks (cegonha in Portuguese), and the eventual stork nests atop any tall structure, including the electrical line posts along the road. I have heard that storks very much have come to stay, some of them even here all year round, so that they are now resident storks. To see them, avoid the highway, and take the IC1. Most of these birds are seen around the vicinity of the rice fields approaching Alcacer. And when you're lucky, you might even see the couple with their chicks all on their happy, not so little nest. I've passed that road in different seasons, and notice there are more during summer, where almost every nest is occupied.
