I ADORE this little establishment, which is saying a lot coming from someone who doesn't usually get excited by Italian food much.

Cacio e Pepe is Italian for "cheese and pepper". Tucked away along a row of shophouses on a quiet road, Cacio e Pepe was started by Peter Neo, the former Executive Chef of the venerable Italian restaurant, Buono. When you first walk in, the thing that's the most striking is the interior decoration (or lack thereof). Walls are white washed and by most counts, the appearance of the restaurant is minimalistic. But if that's what they had to do to put the money where it counts, namely the SUPERB FOOD and FANTASTIC SERVICE, I'm all for white washed walls.

And Cacio e Pepe is just stellar in these two departments. The waitstaff is very personable and the Italian server really brings a streak of flavour to the whole experience.

Be sure to try the rack of lamb (UNBELIEVABLE. Just an exquisite dish in every way; if you want me to put more specific descriptions, being far from a food critic I'll just say it's well seasoned, well prepared and so, so tender) and the lobster pasta. And no matter how full you are, leave room for the famous chocolate lava cake. The lava cake comes in a standard version and also a rum & macademia version. I personally prefer the latter.

One of that truly outstanding things about Cacio e Pepe is its dedication to making the customer happy. These people really live by the role "customer is king". Once, there was some confusion over an order my colleague had placed and the wrong dish was delivered to the table. Instead of taking the dish back to the kitchen like most restaurants would, they graciously offered to leave it with us, explaining it was on the house. The chef, Peter, will also walk around to interact with the guests, not only to get to know them better but to also give more background the the dishes, if you're interested. Love the personal touch they had too all that they do.

10-15% discount for frequent guests. Get friendly with the staff!! I heartily recommend this restaurant-- you can't fault a place with phenomenal food and a staff to match. A secret gem.

FYI, Peter is off Tuesdays.

Favorite Dish: Rack of lamb. I've never had such an exquisite dish of rack of lamb. I order it every time I visit these days. It's that good.

Can't go wrong with the lobster pasta and chocolate lava cake either.

For appetizers, I'd recommend the papardelle with porcini mushrooms and truffle sauce.
