You'd never guess by the name, but Crispy's is actually a Turkish shop and restaurant that just happens to serve great pizza and wings. Their hidden specialties are Turkish teas, snacks, gyros, and baklava. They also have famous neighborhood pizza and sandwiches.

We arrived one night around 8pm, and the place was empty except for a phone on the counter making the piercing "deen, deen, deen, deen" sound of a long-abandoned line. I peeked behind the counter just to make sure the worker wasn't laying back there dead with an empty cash drawer, but luckily no one was there. We heard a rustling in the kitchen, and instead of a knife-wielding assassin, the owner appeared.

He took our order, two gyros (pronounced ghyeer-ose, not ji-roze) meals with fries to go for about $16. The food took quite a while to make, but the owner apologized profusely and said his daughter was sick. He even gave us a free 2-liter bottle of Coke.

We arrived home and really enjoyed our great gyros, filled with fresh veggies and lots of meat. The fries were also well seasoned, crisp, and tasty.
