Potobello Gold: "Good local in Portobello Road" Portobello Gold Bar & Restaurant Tip by Britannia2
Portobello Gold Bar & Restaurant, London: 3 reviews and 11 photos
This I guess is a typical London pub with dining facilities at the back in a conservatory type area that has a roof that folds back in good weather. The restaurant has plenty of plants for greenery interest and caged birds too.
Fairly spacious and comfortable bench type seats or chairs at large dark wood tables.
The rest room facilities are not the best but are adequate and the bar area at the front is very traditional with old pictures of film and pop stars.
First visited March 2010 and again March 2012 - no real changes but on last visit we had drinks only on a Saturday morning. Really atmospheric with local traders from the market outside in and antique hunters comparing wares.
Favorite Dish: We had Sunday roasts at £15.75 per head which seems to be a standard price across London. Much higher than provincial prices but costs are much higher here and this reflects in the prices.
The lamb was beautifully cooked and the vegetables perfect in texture and crispness. A good sized meal complete with Yorkshire pudding.
The desert was perfect and the cook magnificent.
The building dates from 1920 when the old pub on the site was sinking along with the rest of the block in to the reclaimed swamp at the end of the road. The pub today is said to be holding up the rest of the street!
