"Wow, Grey-headed Flying-Foxes!" Top 5 Page for this destination Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Tip by cjg1
Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain, Sydney: 91 reviews and 200 photos
The Royal Botanic Gardens of Sydney is home to over 22,000 Grey-headed flying foxes. As you walk through the Botanic Gardens you can see them swooping through the air; appearing to be large birds but at closer look you know its the flying foxes. The flying foxes can also be seen nesting high up in the trees and their high pitched shrill lets you know they are awake.
During our visit there was talk of relocating the flying foxes because they have caused damage to plants and trees in the Botanic Gardens. They had suggested other wildlife preserves in Sydney and possibly Melbourne for the relocation. I personally don't think this will happen but it would be a shame to return to the Gardens and not see these familiar creatures.
