When you see the cathedral from the road in the plain, you already imagine you will see something huge and high. And, if you are not impressed when you are in the narrow streets, once you enter and look at the nave (picture 1), you again see it is a very high construction. Not only high, but impressively elegant, with the high pillars, the two rows of windows, the vaults and arches of the ceiling as high as the sky. . . .
The general shape and structure is very impressive, but when having a close look at décor, you may be a bit saddened, statues have been removed (picture 2), sculptures and altars are not at their best, like this entombment (picture 3) which has suffered a lot and may not have the luck of a resurrection. . .
But there are lots of beautiful surprises too in this cathedral, like this black virgin (picture 4), hidden in a small niche, or more visible and obvious, a number of tapestries, like this David bringing back Goliath?s head (picture 5), in mostly blue colours, not common on 17th century tapestries ornate the walls of several side chapels.
There were some renovation works outside the cathedral, hopefully some works will be undertaken inside.
