"Matuto Petroglyphs" Kaimana Off The Beaten Path Tip by DSwede

There are a few remote locations in Papua and the neighboring islands that have petroglyphs, however they are not all that easy to reach.
Matuto petroglyphs are typically half man, half lizard. Not much is known of their cultural significance, but they are accepted to be the ancestors of heroes.
If you get a knowledgeable local guide, they may be able to show you or tell you how to get to some.
Unfortunately my photos were lost, but there is a section of cliff side that has about 1.5km of rock face with various layers of petroglyphs. These are visible from the water/boat and you do not need to beach the boat or walk anywhere.
Located on the west side of Papua Island, near Teluk Gagak Bay, sandwiched between Namotote Island.
