Built about 1770 and re erected in 1993 Nant Wallter Cottage is unique amongst the buildings at St Fagans because its walls are built of clay or mud which is known as clom. The clay would be dug on site, mixed with straw and stone dust and then laid in layers which would be left to dry for several days before the next layer could be added.
It's roof is supported by timbers which are joined together to form crucks uo which wattle, gorse and then straw thatch were laid .
