The City Pub proclaims itself as an Irish bar, although the theming is quite subtle. The decor, with its musical instruments, route 66 memorabilia, gold and platinum discs by big-name rock bands, and the multi-national drinks signage, is more "Hard Rock Cafe" than anything I've ever come across in my Irish travels. Not only that but I didn't see anyone actually ordering Guinness and the main beer sign above the bar is for Heineken.

What it misses in its attempted "Irishness" however is definitely not to its disadvantage and instead I found it to be as close to a proper pub as I've found in Bulgaria.

This is the sort of place where you can just drop in for half-a-dozen beers, sitting at the bar (yes it has bar stools - all along and in constant use), and not attract the sort of funny looks I've gotten elsewhere. It does do food with an International pubby theme and a few potato dishes to continue the Irish bit but I was more interested in having a few beers and so didn't read the menu. As well as the aforementioned Heineken there are a selection of other lagers both domestic and imported and the prices are surprisingly reasonable with Zagorka at (if I remember correctly) 1.60 leva.

Clientele tends to be a bit studenty (and so plenty of pretty girls) and the place has a pleasant buzz. Service is swift and friendly whilst the backgrouund music (which maybe from a juke box) is once again more "Hard Rock Cafe" than Irish but not overloud.
