The Icelandic Opera is relatively young here in Iceland, going back to the end of the 1970's.
There are not only operetta concerts at The Icelandic Opera, but monologues and children's play etc.
You will see "Gamla bݡ" written on the opera house. Before The Icelandic Opera moved to this building for decades it housed one of the most famous, and definitely the most beautiful and sophisticated cinemas in ReykjavÝk with balconies and red carpets and seats. I have such good memories from this wonderful cinema, as my best friend┤s grandfather owned it and we visited it a lot... good times.
Now(summer 2011) the Icelandic Opera has moved into the new Opera House by the harbour - HARPAN. And this old cinema house is now a theatre.
