Having eaten in a few places round Sairee I decided to try somewhere different, and there is certainly plenty of choice, all it would appear of a uniformly good standard. I hope you good VT readers realise the sacrifices I make just to bring you more tips! In the event this turned out to be an excellent choice.
I had a bit of a chat first with the waitress, a delightful young Burmese girl during which I remarked on the complete page devoted to Isaan (Esan) food. Isaan is the region of Northeastern Thailand bordering Lao, and is a place I love with a cuisine I equally adore. Isaan food is hot, and I mean hot. It differs completely from the coconut and basil based cuisine of the South. I mentioned that I had been to the region and loved the food. Being off season and fairly quiet, the waitress went off to fetch the chef patron, a lovely lady from Isaan thus explaining the menu. I immediately ordered the spicy liver and there ensued the usual performance. Not wishing to send the poor foreigner off with first degree chilli burns of the tongue, Isaan food is often toned down. I assured her I could "eat hot" and asked that it be prepared the proper way. And so it was. The liver was cooked to a turn, the sauce suitably volcanic and a little wicker basket of sticky rice completed the dish. Obviously, if you want it less spicy, you may have it prepared that way. As I had it, it was superb, and the whole lot with a couple of beers came to about £4 sterling. I never cease to be amazed by the quality of food I can get in Thailand for a fraction of what I would pay in the UK. I hope the photo gives some idea of the meal.
As well as the excellent Isaan offering, there is the whole range of Central and Southern Thai food offered, all in lovely surroundings and with excellent service. In an area of excellent eating options this place is definitely recomended.
Favorite Dish: The spicy (and I mean spicy) liver - an absolute delight.
