  The Huka Falls
by worldkiwi

Go have a look at the Huka Falls, Taupo.
The Huka Falls are pretty spectacular. The Waikato River, the country's longest, is funneled into a narrow rocky gorge. The huge volume of vivid blue water moving north from Lake Taupo, thunders through the gorge and then crashes over a ledge (the photo). It's pretty awesome.
Get an ice-cream from the stall in the car park and then walk down the path, across the bridge to the final viewing place. The crashing water is mesmerising.

Directions: The main road, north of Taupo (middle of the North Island). Look out for the sign posts.
