"Glendalough" Glendalough Tip by tvdm

Glendalough, Ireland: 27 reviews and 44 photos

The ruins of Glendalough make an excellent afternoon excursion from Dublin, but walking around the forested hills and exploring the Wicklow Mountains can keep you busy for many days.
Glendalough is more than 1000 years old and was one of the first major monastic settlements in Europe. Thanks to St Kevin, flocks of wannabe saints came to Glendalough to find peace, learn the gospel and get prepared for preaching to the heathens. Today, the beautifully preserved ruins and the gorgeous backdrop (Glendalough literally means 'Valley of the Two Lakes') guarantee an unforgettable day during your travels through Ireland.

Address: County Wicklow
Directions: Glendalough is located within county Wicklow, just south of Dublin, and there are shuttle bus services. The trip shouldn't take more than 45 minutes if the traffic is okay.
