To celebrate the end of Christmas, so to speak, there are bonfires on The Epiphany 6th of January. The atmosphere is very much like that on New Year's Eve, but it starts at ca 18 o'clock with a torch parade leading to the bonfires. A lot of people are dressed up like elves and there is an elf king and an elf queen. The story goes that elves move home on The Epiphany, along with cows talking and seals shedding their skin (thought of as being humans in disguise). There is a lot of singing at the bonfires and a lovely atmosphere.

The bonfires are at the same places as the ones on New Year's Eve in almost every neighbourhood in ReykjavÝk and anyone can take part in the bonfires and the torch parade. I recommend partaking in this if you are in ReykjavÝk on The Epiphany.

It is also a tradition to shoot up what was left of the fireworks from New Year's Eve.
