"I can't understand why more..." Ireland Off The Beaten Path Tip by vilkas

Ireland Off The Beaten Path: 311 reviews and 462 photos

I can't understand why more people don't visit the countryside of west Ireland, though I'm glad. There is nothing like walking all day from nowehere to nowhere in the countryside of Eire! Wherever you turn, you are likely to come across an iron-age fort or 16th century keep or, better yet, a story. And the tourists won't bother you - they are all hanging upside down kissing the blarney stone or shopping in Dublin.

More specifically - Milltown Malby in west Clare (I think) had a great pub music festival when I was there in June. You can spend all day listening to Celtic music (the best in the world . . .save bluegrass!) in return for buying beer for the local musicians. I stayed in an old manor-house near the village of Corofin in County Clare. Nearby Ennis (pictured here) is a nice place, in many ways a typical small Irish town, and there's a lot of good camping in the vicinity. The market in Ennis was quite fun.
