I discovered this new hotel in summer 2009 looking for a quiet accommodation not far from the historic center and with a secure parking lot for my car. This family run tiny hotel offers 12 very well designed and equipped rooms with nice and sterile clean bathrooms. It has large, closed and monitored parking lot which is included in hotel price. There is also nice garden, grill area and outdoor terrace behind the building with tables and umbrellas that welcome guests to sit down in the evening for a drink, snack or cigarette. The whole hotel is smoke-free which is still not a common rule in Krakow. It has no air-condition but even in a hot summer day it didn't disturb me.

It's located in a quiet and peaceful district of Krakow, at a distance of a long walk (some 40 min.) from the Old Town or only about 5-8 min. by taxi to the Barbican at the edge of the historic center. Just ask at the reception to call for a taxi say 10-20 min. in advance. This service is included in price and taxi costs only about 4-5 euros one way. Well, there are lanes for buses and taxis on the way to downtown, so it's unlikely to be trapped by any traffic jams on the way. There is main railway track (Krakow-Warsaw) over 100 m behind but it never disturbed me.

Unique Qualities: English and often always German speaking staff is very friendly and helpful. After arrival you will be gently asked to specify at what time you want breakfast the next day. I liked their freshly made buffet breakfasts a lot. If you have any diet limitations just tell them in advance. If you need a transfer from airport (KRK) or railway station (Kraków Glówny) e-mail or call them. They always help you to arrange various tours at average Krakow's rates. Well, there is no restaurant in this hotel but they sell some snacks and drinks at the reception. Check what they offer and tell them in advance what you need.

I and Urszula also liked a lot white, little dog of the hotel owner :-), a very well behavioured animal, no worries. This hotel, although located outside the historic center (which maybe noisy and crowded day and night especially at some places in summer weekends) is more and more used by foreign visitors to Krakow, as I noticed. I was lucky to meet visitors from Italy and the Netherlands there.

I admire the owner of this hotel, a very nice woman who really takes care for each small detail to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. I am impressed.

Hotel B.A.S. is also less expensive than 3-star hotels located in the Old Town when additionally you have to pay a lot for a parking lot and sometimes also for breakfast. Simply it's my recommendation. In peak summer season 2009 I paid only about 55 euros per night for a double room with all taxes, parking lot and buffet breakfast included (reservation through booking.com 3 weeks before arrival). The option to get a good rate is to e-mail them directly and ask.

Address: ul. Zabiniec 16; 31-215 Kraków
Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: About 3 km north of the historic center of Krakow. It's 7 min. by car or about 5 min. by taxi (there are fast lanes for taxi and buses on the way) to the Barbican at the edge of the historic center or 40 min. on foot - checked on google.maps.
