Unsicht Bar - Koln: "A Gourmet Experience into the Blind World" Cologne Restaurant Tip by rajiv00

Cologne Restaurants: 179 reviews and 226 photos

I first read about this restaurant on TripAdvisor under list of "Things to Do" in Cologne.

It is a 2-3 hour culinary journey into the blind man's world. Once you pick your set menu (choice of Vegetarian, Fish, Chicken, Meat or Mixed), you are guided by the blind waiters to your table in a room which is pitch dark. No cell phones or cigarettes are allowed (since they have some light in them).

Your waiters serve you the courses and are there to help you, with anything in the dark. The first 10-15 minutes were stressful and nerve-wracking, but the rest of the meal was great because I got used to the darkness. The waiters really put you at ease and while enjoying the food, you only wonder, how blind people live their day.

The courses were simple but with flavor. Ours consisted of a soup, salad, main course and dessert. I won't tell you what we ate cos you're supposed to guess what you ate after the meal. You'll be surprised how hard it is to recognize food (without looking at it).

They have a branch in Berlin and Hamburg as well. The Berlin section of the website explains the concept in English. A chunk of the restaurant's revenues go to blind charities.
