"Sopwell Nunnery" St Albans Things to Do Tip by graeme83

St Albans Things to Do: 126 reviews and 332 photos

This is a small ruin located about a 15 min walk downhill from the centre of the town. There is nothing actually left of the former nunnery which was established in 1140. The ruins themselves are actually from a Tudor mansion that was built on the site in the 1500s.

The site itself is open-air and free to visit. Ten minutes is sufficient to look around the area surrounding the buildings. If using a car there is free parking less than 100 metres in front of the Nunnery on Cottonmill Lane.

Address: Cottonmill Lane, AL1
