"Spot the history in the harbour" Kyrenia Harbour Tip by leics

Kyrenia Harbour, Kyrenia: 14 reviews and 30 photos

Chain tower on the left, lighthouse in the middle.

When Kyrenia was guarded by its castle, a huge chain could be laid across the harbour to prevent attack.

You can't see the chain now, but you can see one preserved chain-tower on the left of the photo.

The stump in the middle of the harbour is possibly what is left of a very early lighthouse.

The ancient Roman harbour lies to the east of the existing castle. You can walk round (a pleasant stroll past the boats) although there is nothing to see apart from the remains of a Roman breakwater.

Address: Kyrenia
Directions: Unmissable.
