Mogul Engine 1629 was built in Schenectady New York. It went into service for the Southern Pacific Railroad that operated from Yuma, Arizona to Portland, Oregon and through Santa Clarita Valley. Mogul Engine 1629 is a M4 engine weighing 75 tons and with wheels 2-6-0. She retired from her faithful service in1957, but found another new home when famed Western actor, Gene Autry bought her. Mogul Engine 1629 was actually used in films at his Melody Ranch in Placerita Canyon and on television series in "Gunsmoke" and "Wyatt Earp." Mr. Autry donated her in 1981 to the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society and where she found another home next to the Saugus Train Station Museum for all of us to enjoy.
