The original name of this narrow thoroughfare was rue Percée, as can be seen on the old sculpted name-plaques and re-named much later for the "Prevot or Provost Hugues Aubriot". This esteemed gentleman layed the first stone of the old Bastille prison in 1370. The only real interest today is a smell!!!!! Halfway down the street at no. 12 is an "ebeniste", restoring and renovating furniture using old methods. But the smell of wax, linseed oil and shaved wood always takes me back to the smells of the old workshops in East London when I was a boy. This workshop is one of the rare ones this side of La Bastille.
Closest metro is St. Paul.
