"come prepared" Top 5 Page for this destination Badlands National Park Packing List Tip by richiecdisc
Badlands National Park What to Pack: 3 reviews and 5 photos
Luggage and bags: There are no marked extended trails in Badlands National Park. Any backpacking would be off trail and require great self-sufficiency so chances are you do not need your backpack. A small day pack is great for carrying snacks and much needed beverages in this arid climate.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Sturdy hike shoes if tacking longer trails, otherwise comfortable walking shoes are sufficient. Light long sleeved shirts and pants protect you from an intense sun. A wide brimmed hat does likewise for your head and face. Bring some warm clothes too if you will be here early morning or late afternoon. Once the sun goes down, the temperatures do likewise.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sun screen should be applied liberally and often.
Photo Equipment: A wide angle lens is great for bringing the foreground into your photos and making them more interesting. A zoom is best for wildlife. You never know when you get lucky and see a Bighorn Sheep!
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Though this is not a great camping park, a night in this wilderness is special. Bring a tent with a mesh ceiling. The stars seem so close you can touch them! A warm sleeping bag and a sleeping mat. It gets cold here at night no matter how hot it is during the day.
Miscellaneous: So glad D wanted to see this. It brought me back for a second and better glance.
