Badlands National Park is in very remote South Dakota, not a place that mass transit has really taken hold. With such a sparse population, it's not likely to anytime soon. Getting to Badlands National Park as well as getting around it is most easily accomplished in your own vehicle. We were driving around the national parks of the western US for six months so a our car was the only logical choice and allowed us to carry all the gear we needed for our various endeavors.

Typical distances: Badlands National Park Visitor Center to Rapid City-85 miles or 1.5 hours. Badlands National Park to Mount Rushmore National Memorial-100 miles or 2 hours. Badlands National Park to Orient, SD-220 miles or 4.5 hours. Badlands National Park to Sioux Falls-280 miles or 4.5 hours.

Badlands National Park charges $15 for a carload of people to enter for up to one week. Motorcycles pay $10 for the same privilege while those on a bike pay $7. We were traveling with the American The Beautiful Pass which allows a carload of people to enter any National Park or Federally Administered Land for up to a year for $80. This is one of the great values in travel but beware, it will not help you at nearby Mount Rushmore National Memorial. This facility does not charge an admission fee which would be covered by this pass as it is a Federally Administered Land. What it does is charge a parking fee which is not covered by the pass. Pretty sly huh? Pretty petty I'd say.
