"The French Fry Museum!" Brugge Things to Do Tip by soonergooner

Brugge Things to Do: 35 reviews and 80 photos

I've been to Brugge plenty of times, since I have lived in Belgium for a number of years but it was only recently that I visited the museum dedicated to what can be considered the Belgian national food - pomme frites! Of course you'll know them by other names, depending on where you're from - fries, chips, fritta, etc.

The museum is worth the visit and it will only take an hour or two of your time away from the canal boat ride or admiring the Flemish architecture.

Basically, you will learn the history of the potato and what it later became after being deep fried. There are really nice displays and for me, the interesting part was actual frites artwork and an old fashioned frite wagon that you can go in and mess around. Sorry, no chance of making your own!

Have a look at the photos and if you get to Brugge, definitely get to the museum and afterward go to the main square and order yourself some frites (with mayonnaise, preferably), park yourself on the bench and enjoy. Oh, get a can of Jupiler too!
