Hagia Sophia Museum is one of the greatest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture.
The history of the area is fantastic, first church built here in the 4th century destroyed in 5th, rebuilt but burned down again tho some of its columns are still in place in the courtyard. The current building is from 532-537AD (An Australian just can?t fathom this long ago!!!!)

Aya Sophia remained a mosque until 1935 when it was converted to a museum for the people. Well worth a visit for the architecture, mosaics, marble floors and gold....

The museum is open between 09:00 - 16:30 except on Mondays.

Admission fees, opening times or days of closure of the museums might be changed without prior notice.

Address: Sultanahmet - Istanbul
Directions: You can see it from everywhere - just follow the dome...
