St Bartholomew's church in the village of Tong is one of the most harmonious and interesting churches not just in Shropshire but I'd say the whole of England.
The layout for a start is different from most parish churches having a central octagonal tower instead of the more traditional west front.
The church is 600 years old and has been called Shropshire's Westminister abbey due to the incredible memorials to the Vernon family that reside inside the church.
The church features in Dickens "The old curiosity shop" and to satisfy the curious tourists that came the parish clerk had a fake tombstone put up in the graveyard claiming it to be that of the character Little Nell.
Address: Tong village, Shropshire
Directions: The church is very easy to find as it sits where the M54 motorway intersects the A41 road.
