Here comes the liveliest open market in Maribor or 'tržnica' at Vodnikov square (Vodnikov trg in Slovene) - it is open daily from 6 am til 3 pm, but if you want best vegetables and fruits don't come very late when most of farmers and sellers are packing away their stuff and it gets less crowded - and also less colorful.
It will be busiest around noon and earlier because housewives are buying ingrediens for cooking - when I once passed it by on december saturday noon it was full of people, very colorful - all these vegetables there in numerous shapes and colors, nice fruits and bottles, so contrasty to grey winter day when Pohorje hill was already colored white yet streets were looking rather moody :)
So, forget about going to shopping mall and rest your eyes watching people and making business.

Another thing that you obviously notice at the market square is the controversial new design of that place with white inversed umbrella kind of thing (construction) as its key ingredient - kind of a high a roof but not trully helpful weather protection because those poor seller here complain about standing here on cold wind and rain despite these umbrellas. As much as one think how lovely and unique this design is, it has been proved painfully impractical and serious discussions in the city hall are promising new roof - so, additional change in future.

Directions: centre, follow Koroska street after the main square on feet and within minutes you get to Vodnikov square, see the umbrella in lower plate - you cannot miss.
