Tuba Christmas is a national happening, conceived in 1974 as a tribute to the late tuba artist/teacher William J. Bell, sponsored by the Harvey Phillips Foundation. It was held at 179 locations throughout the USA, Canada, and Switzerland.
The photos attached are from the 2009 Kansas City event backed by the Kansas City Symphony, and held in KC's Lyric Theatre. More than 400 tuba and euphonium players, ranging in age from 11 to 76, packed the lower level of seats in the auditorium. Players came from numerous towns and cities in the region, from as far away as Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Scott Watson, tuba professor at the University of Kansas directed. A colorful and unique event!
