I spent 4 nights here. Was going to stay at a friends house but Birthe (the owner) was the one that helped me with my visa I spent a few nights here. At the time I stayed they had a range of rooms with the cheapest being a $70 night room with shared bathroom. The picture in the tip was one with two singles that they let me stay in Monday morning after my flight arrived at 01:00 which cost a bit more $90? If you a looking for a clean and friendly place then this is it. Birthe is from Norway and along with her staff..takes great care of their guests. They are approved lodging for both UN and US Govt. employees. (They have the peep holes in the doors, security guards, etc..). The bathrooms are spotless and each room has a/c, TV and a small fridge. There are no mosquito nets but a can of spray is located in each room and I only had problems one night which the spray took care of.

Unique Qualities: Birthe is a great host...she makes a great omelet in the morning as part of the complimentary breakfast on the roof top..there is also a honesty bar there with a range of drinks including non-alcoholic beers. The roof top patio is a great place to relax in the morning or evening after a long day out. They also have a laptop with internet service along with wireless service if you bring your own. They will also register your passport for 150 SDP....not the cheapest but quick and it allows you to avoid the hassles of running around town.
Either Birthe or her staff can help you arrange a 4x4 to the North to Meroe, etc...to see the sights. Her prices tended to be a bit better than some of the local travel services. She can answer just about any question you might have on Sudan or knows who to ask if she does not know herself.
