The Blue Glacier is an impressive sight and one that catches you off guard if you stop to think where you are when looking at it. If you were at 14,000 feet in Canada you would expect such things but this close to the coast and at only 8000, it's hard to fathom. This is due to the high precipitation on the Olympic Peninsula along with its temperate foggy climate. It stretches for 2.7 miles and is one glacier that lives up to the blue name, being particularly clean looking. It is down from 3.4 miles in 1800. Some refute global warming but if there is even a remote chance that it is true, take a long look at what we are destroying by not combating it. Most people see it from Hurricane Ridge but it's quite a distant view and you get a much better feel for not only its size but also its beautiful color from the Blue Glacier Overlook. It's also a lot less crowded but then again, you have to hike two days to get there.
