"Books and movies" Dublin Favorite Tip by Dabs

Dublin General: 403 reviews and 369 photos

Favorite thing: There are a bazillion books and movies set in Ireland, some of the movies that I've enjoyed over the years:

The Wind That Shakes the Barley, set in 1920s Ireland, the story pits brother against brother in the fight for an independent Ireland

The Commitments based on a Roddy Doyle novel, the music is great as are the performances

Once, set in Dublin, the story of a street musician and the feelings that develop between him and a young Czech immigrant pianist

And some of the books:

Round Ireland with a Fridge by Tony Hawks, an amusing tale of a man who travels around Ireland with a fridge for a month, the consequence of betting while intoxicated

McCarthy's Bar by Pete McCarthy, another amusing tale of an Englishman who's mother hailed from Ireland who follows the cardinal rule of "Never Pass a Bar That Has Your Name on It"

Ireland: A Novel by Frank Delaney, Irish history, myths and legends as told by a roaming storyteller to a young boy who develops his own gift of storytelling
