"Chalbeate Well" Hampstead Things to Do Tip by jo104

Hampstead Things to Do: 44 reviews and 103 photos

The water from this well has a high iron content and was deemed to have significant health benefits. The waters were to be used to benefit to poor of the parish of Hampstead, the paque above the well is inscribed with the name of the lady who gave the 6 acres of land to the poor. I have tasted this type of mineral water in Bath and it is tastes a bit like blood when you cut your finger.

The well stands opposite the Wells tavern which was a hotel at one time.
