Completed in 2007, the New Museum building is one of the most original in NYC. The cubic building was designed by the renowned Japanese firm SANAA (Sejima + Nishizawa and Associates) and is perhaps the museum's best work of art. It contains several floors for temporary exhibitions of modern art, and no permanent collection. Entry into the museum costs $12 (Nov 09), so check beforehand whether the work exhibited appeals to you or not (it did not when I visited!). The New Museum is located on Bowery Street in the Lower East Side.
