Eikando is a relatively large temple complex just off the Philosopher's Path. Exploring the buidlings and walking around the lake is pleasant, particularly in spring and autumn however, the real reason to visit Eikando is to see it's unique statue of Amida Buddha, the Mikaeri Amida Nyorai Statue. What makes it different from other Buddhist sculptures is that the Buddha is looking to the right instead of straight. Even if you are unaware of this, the statue immediately strikes you as different upon seeing it. If the statue does not interest you, then maybe the temple will not interest you, either. For me, it was the visit!
