Probably the most important work of art in the monastery is the tomb of Blanche of Navarre, daughter of king García Ramírez of Navarre and married to king Sancho III of Castile. When she died at young age in 1156 her husband, the king, was filled with grief and ordered this masterpiece of Romanesque art.
Unfortunately, only the top of the sarcophagus has survived. The death and burial of Blanche are depicted as well as scenes from the Bible, such as the Massacre of the Innocents.
