Rider, who are you ...
Although the Bamberg horseman is the best known and most significant sculpture in the cathedral, it is at the same time the most mysterious one. We don't know who it was made by and whom it portrays. The work was created in the first part of the 13th century by an unknown sculptor. It shows a young rider, obviously of noble rank, on a horse. The rider is unarmed, holding his head high in the regal manner. There are various opinions on whom the sculpture might portray. Some suggestions include Stephen of Hungary, Constantine the Great or perhaps just a symbolic figure of medieval knight.
