No trip to Cairo to the Pyramids would be complete without visiting the Sphinx.

Standing tall, as guardian over the Pyramids, the Sphinx looks over a modern city that has been built almost to the paws of the Sphinx!

I must say that Anne and I were very impressed with standing in front of this ancient structure. We marvelled at its size and stature over the surroundings, were walked around the base and took in the sites from the viewing area and we certainly enjoyed the entire experience seeing this icon standing over the land of the Pharaohs.

The only down side for us were two fold:
1. The amount of rubbish that the locals simply throw onto the ground for the winds to clean away, and
2. 2. The fact that the Egyptian Government has permitted the buildings to be built right up to this magnificent place in history! (If you stand in front of the Sphinx and attempt to take a photograph with a 45 degree angle at the pyramids you will also take a photo of a high rise apartment building and for sale signs! A real shame.)
