Unique Qualities: The Crater Lake Lodge is a classic National Park structure, full of lots of wood and rustic charm. Set right on the caldera of the lake, it offers grand views and has been doing just that since 1915. It was renovated in 1995 and offers modern convenience to go along with its rustic ambiance. The 71 room hotel has a dining room specializing in regional cuisine and, you guessed it, spectacular views.

Price range between $150-300 depending on room type and view. Open seasonally due to road closure on the Rim Drive. Reserve through Xanterra.

As with all National Park Lodges of this much historical value, you do not have to stay at them to enjoy their ambiance. They are considered part of the park and you are entitled to sit in their lobbies and write postcards, with the fire place roaring.

This was one one I would have much preferred staying in the lodge to camping!

Comparison: most expensive
Directions: Located on a small spur road off the Rim Drive so it is literally right on the rim of the lake.
Price: US$80-120
Theme: Hotel
