When The "Swan River Colony"was established as a British Colony for freesettlers..the Roundhouse complex came into being ..the first permanent building that had to be constructed was a gaol..Arthur Head was the location..apart from the Roundhouse many buildings were constructed on the site....courthouse..bakery,many cottages for local staff..from all accounts this was brutal place to be incarcerated..

Directions: The Roundhouse complex is located at the end of High St Fremantle...The "free" Fremantle CAT bus stops very near the Roundhouse and does a loop of Fremantle station returning about every ten minutes..
