"SET YOUR WATCH AT THE ROUNDHOUSE" The Round House Tip by DennyP

When in Fremantle make sure to visit the Roundhouse complex..one thing that i wanted to especially see here was the dropping of the "timeball" ...This attraction happens everyday at 1300 hours (1 PM).when at the same time a cannon is fired a large black"timeball" is dropped from the mainmast in the Roundhouse fort...A very old tradition signalling the exact time for masters and navigators of early sailing vessels to set their timepieces and chronometers so acurate navigation at sea was possible....although this procedure was discontinued in 1937 the Volunteer Guides of the Roundhouse have re-enacted the ceremony everyday since starting again in 1998...You maybe the lucky one picked out each day to be the "Honorary Gunnery Officer" to fire the the cannon..
Entry is by gold coin donation ...
Open 10.30AM to 3.30 PM everyday except Xmas day and Boxing day..
