I love whales and anytime I can get a chance to see these majestic creatures I am ecstatic. Maui is blessed with their winter migration south and you can usually enjoy them from November - May (many say December-May), but February and March are probably the best times to see these beautiful creatures.

The best places to catch a glimpse of the Humpback whale if you aren't doing a whale watching boat ride is along the South and West shores of Maui like Makena, Wailea, Kihie, Ma'alaea, Olowalu, Lahaina, Ka'anapali and Kapalua. We saw plenty at the Papawai lookout as well as from Wailea Beach while sunbathing.

If you prefer to get an up close look at these creatures take a half day tour on a whale watching vessel.

We usually visit Maui in January and have been lucky to see the whales from the resort beach as well as look outs along the coast.
